Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 185 Days / Non-Exempt  (Hours 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm)

 

Salary Schedule:

 

Position Purpose:  Primary responsibility is making outgoing calls on the telephone to (parents & school staff).  Distribute and monitor bus bulletin notifications to eligible parents, district officials and school building administrators daily.  Pulling keys and making copies of route sheets.  Assist with large volume of incoming calls from parents, students, school personnel, transportation employees and public as needed. 

 

Identify caller concerns, record messages for appropriate staff, research info on students and respond to party as necessary. This position requires that the employee respond calmly to non-routine situations.  The employee must have the ability to interact and resolve issues pertaining to the daily operation and safety of students being transported. All communication must be handled in a professional and courteous manner. 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to speak Spanish. (Preferred)
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of technology. Experience with MS WORD and EXCEL required. Database experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in dealing with the public (preferably telephone work or customer service).
  • Excellent communication skills, legible writing and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize, be detail oriented, and a self-motivator
  • Capable of working effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, changing assignments on short notice, performing under deadlines with pressure, ability to work in a calm and efficient manner
  • Ability to work as a productive team member
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
  • Excellent attendance and work record.

 

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service with high standards of tact and courtesy
  • Assist parents, community members and school personnel regarding transportation questions or requests.
  • Create a professional environment while serving as first and primary contact for staff and parents reaching out to Transportation.
  • Ability to professionally communicate with the parents and school personnel using tact and courtesy
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of School District requirements and School Board policies
  • Exceptional ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information
  • Organize and maintain records, documentation and databases. Filing, data entry, and other recordkeeping.
  • Respond to inquiries, prepare and deliver communications and reports.

 

Additional Duties:  Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

          

Equipment:  This position requires basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Users must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

 

Travel:  Occasional travel within the metro area and the district may be required.

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in an office environment, school buildings and warehouse setting.
  • Ability to lift, move and reposition objects and materials- frequently exerting force equal to lifting fifty (50) pounds.

 

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

 

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
