Reports To:  Supervisor of Maintenance, Service Center

 

Work Schedule/FLSA Status:  261 Duty Days / Non-Exempt

 

Salary Schedule: This is a full-time negotiated position. Salary grade 87D based on Negotiated Agreement

 

 

Position Purpose: This individual will repair, maintain & install mechanical/electrical sub-systems of a broad array of Security, audio-visual and communications equipment and safety systems. Duty may include short-term evening shift assignments to meet immediate service needs.

 

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High school diploma with Associate Degree in Electronics preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of full time experience with Security, Intrusion, Camera & Access Controls systems. Experience with Genetec and Axis is preferred.
  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Skills pertinent to positive human relationships with the ability to communicate and work effectively with staff members and community in a multicultural setting.
  • Above average attendance and work performance.
  • Will maintain strict confidentiality of information and records.
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills. Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to meet District's insurability requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of personal computer, Microsoft Office 365 software, with work order software preferred.

 

Responsibilities:

  • General knowledge to diagnose network systems including IP networking, ISE, VLANS and DHCP reservations.
  • Will diagnose, repair, adjust, and install Security, Camera & Card Access systems.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program for Intrusion, Security, Camera, and Card Access systems.
  • Must be willing to get and maintain Fire alarm Inspectors License. Inspect fire alarm panels and detectors to maintain compliance with state fire inspection criteria.
  • Consult with contractors in making decisions regarding repair and installation of Security and Access Control Systems.
  • Conduct onsite inspections of contractor's work to ensure compliance with specifications and schedule.
  • Enter time and materials, along with technician comments, into a computerized work order system.
  • Perform job duties independently and efficiently, exhibiting reliable judgment, setting appropriate priorities and timelines, and solving problems in support of successful and timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Perform trade-related tasks as assigned by the Foreman, Maintenance Manager or Supervisor of Maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Duties:


Performs other related tasks as assigned by manager, foreman, and/or administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Physical ability to climb, kneel, stoop, walk and engage in heavy physical activities including exerting force equal to lifting seventy (70) pounds in performance of job-related tasks.
  • Ability to climb ladders with tools and equipment weighing up to thirty pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights of up to fifty (50) feet.
  • Ability to work in physically constricted areas.
  • Ability to pass a pulmonary function test.
  • Ability to pass functional assessment of physical capacity.

 

Equipment: Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

 

Travel:   Local travel will be required.

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

 

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

 

In order for schools and departments to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.  Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.  All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

 

Terms of Employment:

This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

 

The offer of employment is contingent upon:

  • Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses, certificates, and other requirements for the position (e.g., Paraprofessionals obtaining “Highly Qualified status,” etc.), as identified and maintaining all licenses, certificates, and requirements for your position throughout employment.
  • A background check which demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position.
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered). Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
