Location: Teacher Administrative Center, 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131            

                IMS Technical Support Department

 

Reports To: IMS Technical Support Coordinator

 

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 Day, 12-month / Exempt

 

Salary Schedule: Non-Negotiated 26 Z / commensurate with education and experience

 

Position Purpose: This position is primarily responsible for the applications and business intelligence team and their development efforts. Work includes the creation of data visualizations, data dashboards, data import and exports, .Net web development, K2 development as well as reporting data to the State of Nebraska. This position deals directly with customers to gather requirements and build solutions. This Team Lead will oversee State Reporting needs for Staff and will interface directly with the State of Nebraska and key OPS business owners to ensure data submissions are timely and accurate.

 

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Establish strong standards of professional ethics when relating to staff, students, parents, administration and the community.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Complies with the District’s operational guidelines. 
  • Keeps abreast of technology developments relating to current trends/issues and education needs (such as training, reading literature, participating in professional organizations).
  • Provide technical assistance and training to staff as necessary; willingness to share knowledge with others.
  • Adhere to District and IMS security practices.
  • Provide direction to the Applications Developer/Business Intelligence Systems Team.
  • Monitor development work and make ticket assignments.
  • Prioritize projects, assign tasks and delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Oversee State Reporting and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Write and maintain SQL stored procedures and SQL Server Agent Jobs.
  • Develop Extract Transfer Loads (ETLs) / SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) development. 
  • Develop data visualizations (Tableau and Power BI).
  • Provide support for Tableau (application setup).
  • Provide technical expertise for data analytics and data visualizations. 
  • Oversee K2 development.
  • Determine and assist with fixes, problem resolutions, escalations, and cases that affect users.
  • Provide end-user training in small group settings and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and make recommendations. 
  • Escalate high profile project issues and staffing problems to IT management.
  • Assist with Tableau version upgrades.
  • Oversee and give direction to the Data Architect.
  • Analyze and evaluate performance problems.
  • Document critical processes, repeatable processes, work requests and instructions for technical support or end users, stored procedures, SQL jobs and automated SQL jobs.
  • Manage security for SQL, Windows, and Tableau.
  • Promote Database Objects (Procs/Views), SSIS Objects, SSRS Objects, and Tableau Objects.
  • Communicate with software vendors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a technology related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of five years of database administration or relevant IT experience with recent or current versions of Microsoft SQL Server required.
  • Experience with DDL, stored procedures, views, indexes, foreign keys, etc.
  • Experience using strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of SQL, data warehousing, and Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS/SSRS).
  • Competency in MS SQL Server data extracting, transformation and loading tools, Integration Services, and Reporting Services.
  • Proficient in developing and executing rigorous test plans for all development, data changes and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with MS EXCEL functions and formulas.
  • Broad experience across web / intranet development with solid understanding of relational database technologies.
  • Experience with ETL best practices (lineage tracking, transformation, data validation, audit reporting, etc).
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and HRMS software, Infinite Campus student software and Tableau data analytics software.
  • Knowledge of web programming support for NET.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft: Windows Operating Systems, Team Foundation Server (TFS), Office Suite versions, Visio, Project, etc.
  • Knowledge of K2 SmartForms and Workflow development.
  • Licensed in good standing and able to travel (drive) throughout the District. 
  • Ability to translate user needs into business requirements. 
  • Ability to design, install, configure, and implement technical solutions based on business requirements. 
  • Skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with staff members in a multicultural urban setting.
  • Ability to conduct analysis (plan, organize, problem-solve, and think abstractly/ conceptually) in an educational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize information and provide direction regarding District-wide management efforts involving data analytics and data warehousing.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to research and solve critical issues.
  • Strong communication skills enabling the ability to convey accurate and timely information – verbally and written.
  • Willingness to comply with District, local, state, and federal laws and standards.
  • Ability to write clear, concise technical documentation (architectural/design diagrams, specifications, and assorted plans.
  • Ability to understand technical manuals and procedural documentation as well as keep documentation up to date.
  • Ability to work through difficult issues and maintain a positive attitude when communicating with others.
  • Ability to work hours outside of normal schedule with little or no advance.

Additional Duties 
Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. 

 

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use interactive presentation technology, and a variety of electronic devices in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use. 

 

Travel: Travel between OPS school buildings and the Central Office will be required.

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations. 
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Work in school building environments. 

Interrelations: 

  • Contact with personnel within the district and other stakeholders. 
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department administration in order to complete day to day tasks. 
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy. 
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to stakeholder needs and maintain a positive attitude with all. 
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external stakeholders in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive service. 

Employee Punctuality and Appearance 

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave. 
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator. 
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

Terms of Employment 

This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative. 

 

Terms of employment are contingent upon: 

  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students. 
  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States. 
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position). 
  • Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS.
