Reports To: Building Principal

 

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: As per BOE Policy and/or negotiated agreement / Full Time - Exempt

 

Salary Schedule: As outlined in applicable negotiated agreement.

 

Position Purpose: The Instructional Technology Coach will support the Verizon Innovative Learning through Digital Promise Initiative and is a 3-year commitment.  This position provides professional development and support to teachers and students in the integration and use of technology to drive student learning.  This position is not guaranteed beyond the grant period.  

 

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports the faculty in the integration of effective uses of digital technology through a consistent pattern of strategic outreach and information support.
  • Collaborates with teachers in composing effective technology-infused, content-based lessons, supports teachers as they implement these lessons in their classrooms, and helps teachers reflect upon and improve lessons.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development related to job responsibilities and maintaining expertise in the field.
  • Works with and understands a diverse student population.
  • Models lessons and technology use as appropriate.
  • Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring in the use of instructional technology.
  • Works with instructional leadership team, teachers and instructional staff in organizing professional learning communities and grade level meetings in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional technology program throughout the school.
  • Collaboratively develops engaging lessons with faculty and provides support through classroom observations, modeling, and co-teaching.
  • Establishes, maintains and enhances effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with staff and school leadership to develop and execute strategic plans around improvement of student achievement, digital citizenship, STEM and personalized learning.
  • Communicate through social media and other appropriate channels, the vision, purpose and ongoing success around student learning opportunities.
  • Collects and analyzes data as required by the grant. Provides reports as designated under the grant and/or by OPS district offices. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and ethical standards to advance the mission and goals of OPS.
  • Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by district policy as well as the State Board of Education.


Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

          

Equipment:  This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine.  Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel may be required. The school assignments that this position is given may change at district’s discretion without notice.

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in school building environments.
  • Must be able to work with instructional technology daily.

 

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
  • Expected to maintain a positive electronic presence at all times.

 

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent required; Master’s Degree Preferred in Education, Curriculum or Administration.
  • A valid Nebraska Teaching License or ability to obtain one with appropriate endorsement(s).
  • History of innovative teaching practices and building student aspirations.
  • Understanding of adult learning andragogy and pedagogy and their relation to technology integration.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Best Instructional Practices.
  • Exhibits skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community.
  • Evidence of the willingness and ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.
  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions.
  • Student centered learning philosophy, creative problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an eagerness to take a leadership role.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Skills in organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to effectively use and train Microsoft Outlook and the student information system.
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of OPS’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them.

 

Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time, and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

 

Terms of employment are contingent upon:

 

  • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.
  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
  • Execution and delivery to OPS of a Teacher Contract presented by OPS.
