Location: Teacher Administrative Center located at 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131

 

Reports To: Coordinator, English Learner/Migrant Education

 

Work Schedule/FLSA Status:  Part-time daytime hours / Hourly Non-exempt, Paid biweekly.

 

Salary Schedule: This is a non-negotiated part-time position between August and June.

 

Position Purpose:  

The Family Literacy Bilingual Aide acts as a cultural broker facilitating home-school connection and communication for Family Literacy classrooms as well as supporting bilingual communication for adult parent involvement classes. This person provides bilingual support in the classroom and leads young children in learning activities under the direction of the Family Literacy Parent Liaison. The role includes native language learning opportunities in addition to English language development. The bilingual aide interacts with young children in one-on-one and small groups through educational play and early childhood skill development. This individual would also provide bilingual support and tutoring for home visits as needed with the EL Family Involvement Program and Migrant Education Program.

 

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

 

Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:  This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

 

Travel:  Local travel may be required.

Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a part-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska Public School and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
